Overview
Tract is built for farmers, by a farmer. Your operational data is yours — we’re not interested in selling it, analyzing it for third parties, or using it for anything other than providing you with a useful farm management tool.
This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and your rights under South African law (POPIA) and international standards.
Data We Collect
Waitlist Phase (Current)
During the waitlist phase, we collect only:
- Email address for waitlist communications
- Basic analytics (page views, referral source) to understand interest
We do not collect any farm operational data during the waitlist phase.
Application Phase (Future)
When Tract enters the pilot program, the app will collect:
- Account Information: Name, email, and farm/organization details
- Operational Data: Field boundaries, activity logs, fuel entries, labor allocations, inventory transactions, and harvest records
- Device Information: Device model, OS version, and crash logs for stability improvements
- Location Data: GPS coordinates captured during activity logging (with your permission)
How We Use Your Data
We use your data solely to:
- Provide and improve the Tract application
- Synchronize your data across your devices
- Generate reports and analytics for your operation
- Provide technical support
- Send important service updates (not marketing spam)
We do not sell, rent, or share your operational data with:
- Advertisers
- Commodity traders or speculators
- Other agricultural technology companies
- Insurance companies
- Financial institutions
Data Storage & Security
- Local-first: Your data is stored on your device first. You own the local database.
- Sync (optional): When you choose to sync, data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest.
- South African hosting: Synchronized data will be stored on servers with appropriate data protection measures.
- No third-party analytics on operational data: We don’t pipe your farm data through Google Analytics or similar services.
Data Ownership & Export
You retain full ownership of your operational data. You may:
- Export your data at any time in standard formats (CSV, JSON, PDF)
- Request complete deletion of your account and associated data
- Access a complete record of what data we hold about you
If you stop using Tract, we will provide reasonable time to export your data before deletion.
Your Rights Under POPIA
As a South African data subject, you have the right to:
- Access your personal information
- Correct inaccurate information
- Request deletion of your information
- Object to processing of your information
- Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator
Cookies & Tracking
The Tract website uses minimal, privacy-respecting analytics. We do not use:
- Third-party advertising trackers
- Social media tracking pixels
- Invasive fingerprinting techniques
Changes to This Policy
We will notify you of material changes to this policy via email (if you’re on our waitlist or a user) and by updating the date at the top of this page.
